'A narrative that can grip you like a vice' Daily Mail Its yet another mystery rockers from Dan Brown called The Lost Symbol that will make you experience the thrill of Robert Langdon mystery adventure. While The Da Vinci Code dealt exclusively with the Holy Grail's lore and its related symbolism, the Robert Langdon franchise's second installment, Angels and Demons, forayed deep into the crypts of the Vatican’s best-kept secrets, and the existence of a society named The Illuminati.'Thrilling and entertaining' Los Angeles Times The explosive success of The Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons on the big screen can be attributed to the intricacies of the plot, which branches out like a maze and unites discordant elements and symbols across history and time. Despite dealing with a wide range of secret societies, underground cults, cryptic documents, and monuments laden with religious and cultural significance, all Dan Brown novels follow a formulaic approach in terms of the Robert Langdon narratives. While The Lost Symbol movie connects to Robert Langdon's storyline and would've been well-received with Tom Hanks at the helm, the decision to turn the book into a television prequel might've been the smartest choice based on Ron Howard and Hanks' reasoning - even though the series was canceled. (Special mention goes to Piotr Michael as Ambassador Spock, whose Leonard Nimoy impression spices up one of the game’s few cameos from existing “Trek” characters. These elements are compelling and appropriately tense, and the script and voice acting are top-notch. It’s a great simulator of the soft skills and quick thinking required for Starfleet command. Moreover, the dialogue tree isn’t as clear cut as something like “Mass Effect,” and your decisions are on a timer: You’ve got to think fast about what you say, and it’s not always clear how your statements will come across. It’s this relationship management that feels paramount (no pun intended, considering “Trek”’s parent company) to “Resurgence”’s gameplay: the pause menu even gives you a rundown of how each character feels about you depending on how you’ve treated them thus far. As Rydek, the weight of command lies heavily on you: Will you force a crewmember to risk their life to save several others? Which of your second officers will you lean on for support during a difficult test? Do you safeguard the reputation of your captain or make an unpopular decision that may protect the crew from danger? As either Rydek or Diaz, you’ll talk to crewmembers and alien guests alike to mediate conflicts, come to decisions, or exert your will on your subordinates. In classic Telltale fashion, the game itself plays out largely like an interactive movie, with a heavy emphasis on dialogue and relationship-building. Together, they and the Resolute crew embark on a dangerous diplomatic mission that wouldn’t be out of place in an old episode of “The Next Generation.” There are two warring factions with centuries of animosity between them, and it’s your job to mediate the dispute before it explodes into all-out war. In the trenches, we also follow Petty Officer Carter Diaz (Josh Keaton), a happy-go-lucky enlisted engineer more focused on a potential romance with a fellow crewman than the big decisions of the brass. There’s Commander Jara Rydek (Krizia Bajos), the new first officer of the Resolute the ship’s previous officer, along with several other crew members, was recently killed in an accident, and the captain (her former Academy mentor) is counting on her to help him weather the new scrutiny to his command. Like the A/B-plot structure of many a classic “Trek” adventure before it, “Resurgence” flits between the perspectives of two different crewmembers. But that’s the point: You and the Resolute crew are regular, everyday joes, doing the grunt work of Starfleet while Picard and co. It’s not the Federation flagship, nor is it particularly beautiful to look at (diehards will recognize the design as a “kitbash,” where modelmakers would glue together bits of existing models for random ships in the background of ‘90s Trek). If you’re familiar with the choose-your-own-adventure flavor of Telltale Games, you’ll feel right at home in the narrative-focused gameplay of “Resurgence.” (Dramatic Labs is made up of 20+ former Telltale artists and producers.) Set just a few years after “ Star Trek: Nemesis,” the last TNG movie, the game eschews the relative familiarity of the Enterprise for a smaller ship, the Centaur-class science vessel Resolute. In so doing, it proves a welcome addition to the broader universe-even if its narrative choices are more compelling than their actual gameplay. But “Star Trek: Resurgence,” just released from developer Dramatic Labs and publisher Bruner House, hews more closely to the spirit of classic “Trek,” more focused on exploring strange new worlds and new civilizations than blasting them to smithereens with a photon torpedo. To date, all of our expenses have been met (without Loans) and the business is Debt-Free…Īlright – so let’s talk business. The following Scripture was my motto as I faced various challenges- “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me” Philippians 4:13. It has not been a smooth road, The biggest challenge that I faced was the loss of my mother and the paralysis of my body, the lesser challenge was when we relocated the business to Arlington/Pantego, sales decreased and the rent was higher however I held onto my “Dream” believing and trusting that God would help us keep the Boutique profitable. Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way? Each year since 2014, Timeless Treasures Vintage & More has placed consecutively 4th place to 2nd place in 2017 on the Dallas A-List in the Best Vintage and Resale Category. We decided to relocate the business to Arlington/Pantego and changed the name to Timeless Treasures Vintage & More. The building that Fabulously Frugale Boutique was located in was sold and the new owner took possession of the building to open a restaurant. Fabulously Frugale Vintage Boutique was nominated and placed 5th on the Dallas A-List in the Best Vintage and Resale Category in 2014. I did not have available cash to finance the business (purchase new merchandise) and I did not want to borrow money so I researched and opened the store as a Consignment Boutique. During the initial year that I was open, my Mother died and I had a Major Stroke that rendered me into a Hemiplegic (completely paralyzed on the left side of my body).įast forward to 2009, we relocated to Irving, Texas, I was no longer paralyzed and I again pursued my “Dream” and opened Fabulously Frugale Vintage Boutique in Irving, TX on Main Street. Armed with the information and leads from my co-workers, within six (6) months in 1994, I had obtained financing, rented a vacant shoppe, completed all of the necessary paperwork to legally start a business in New Jersey, bought Upscale merchandise from Designers and Wholesalers in New York, resigned from my Social Services job and opened Elegante’ Woman Boutique in Hackensack, NJ. I continued to work in my Social Service job, but I was so excited about the possibility of opening the Boutique, I began to tell people at work about my plans to open the Boutique. As he spoke with me, I realized that the time had come for me to pursue my dream of opening a Boutique. I was unaware that only retail store owners were allowed to visit with the wholesalers so I visited with one of the wholesalers without permission. As Fate would have it, a Boutique Trade Show was set up in the lobby of the hotel that we were staying in. While we were in Hackensack, we drove to Philadelphia, Pa. One of my husband’s corporate relocations took us to Hackensack, N.J. I got married and worked in various Social Service positions, continuously being relocated (Corporate transfers) to various cities in the U.S. To satisfy my parents, I enrolled in College at the University of Texas at Arlington and received a B.A. I held onto this Dream even though I was told by numerous people that my “Dream” was crazy. I told her that I wanted to own a Boutique since I had read about Boutiques in Magazines and actually visited a Boutique in Dallas with my mother. I wanted to own a Boutique ever since I was 12 years old, when I was asked by my 6th Grade teacher, what did I want to do when I grew up. The ingredients, will not dissolve due to the absence of chemicals. Close the lid of the cylinder and shake the mixture well. Ten drops of lavender or any other essential oil can add a little fragrance to the detergent. Take one cup of baking soda, one cup of blended or grated Castile soap, a third of a cup of salt and mix them in two cups of hot water in a gallon cylinder. When dealing with hard water, you can use either Epsom salt, kosher salt, or Celtic sea salt as an ingredient because they help in softening the hard water.Ī combination of hot water, baking soda, Castile soap, and salt can make an efficient liquid laundry detergent. Place the resultant mixture in an airtight container. Grate the three bars of Castile soap into fine particles, then mix the grated soap with washing soda in a bowl. For a borax-free powdered laundry detergent, you will require 6 cups of washing soda and 3 bars of Castile soap. The little one's clothes need special attention to protect their sensitive skin.Īlthough borax is from natural minerals, it might irritate a baby's skin. Furthermore, it isn't a good idea to mix the baby's clothes with other people's clothes when doing the laundry. Since newborn babies have very sensitive skin, professionals recommend that caregivers wash their clothes with gentle detergents before the baby arrives. RELATED: The Best Laundry Detergent For Babies With Sensitive SkinĬleanliness is a great contributor to a baby's growth and development. People have come up with recipes for homemade laundry detergents that are very affordable with few ingredients making them safest for baby. The high cost of laundry detergents has led people to look for pocket-friendly alternatives when doing their laundry. You want to protect your little baby as well as you can in every way, and if your child already has sensitive skin, you're probably looking into which detergent is safest to use. With the average family estimated to have up to ten loads of laundry per week, the amount of detergent used in cleaning has become an issue of concern in many households. You think about which detergent to use a lot more after you become a parent. “Testing.I-I can speak again! Ha! I can speak again!” You smile with glee, happy to have your voice once again as you jump up and down. You gasped a little while you look up at the armored Savitar who looked back at you and motioned you to speak. You watch as the amulet that held your voice break as it went going towards you before entering back in until you started coughing. Come Y/N, I’m sure we can beat him there and get your voice back.” Savitar flinches slightly as a new memory came from Barry before turning his head over to you, “Oh Barry, you’re so valuable for information. Not going to tell you now, of course that would ruin the fun of it.” He grins as he thought of plan that would work more in his favor of his plan than go lucky team Flash. I want something in return when we get your voice back. I’ll help you Y/N but I’m not doing it for free. ‘Please I’m begging you’ scribbled on paper as you show the proclaimed god of speed the piece of paper to him.Ī chuckle came out of him, “Fine. But it was even more risky to go against a metahuman alone while you had no powers of your own, go figure. Everyone else thought maybe you got sick and lost it as they told you to go home and rest but you refused to go down as you went to Savitar even though it was risky. However nothing in the field of biochemistry could help you gain your voice back since it was stolen by a metahuman for reasons you didn’t why. You aka Y/N L/N, a brilliant biochemist that has been with S.T.A.R labs since the very beginning and helped with Barry when he developed his powers to become the speedster hero called The Flash. I’m not that pitiful Flash hero that think he can save everyone.” He knew what the future looked like, especially with you. “To be honest Y/N, I have no intention of helping you. But yet here he was standing in front of you with his arms crossed with a rather confused and unamused face while you flail your arms around, reaching to pinch the top of his nose. Anything but him that’s for sure, Savitar doesn’t help people, he doesn’t run around saving people’s lives. It was almost irrelevant for Savitar to help someone, no he didn’t want to be like that man named Barry. Relationship(s): Savitar & Reader, Barry Allen/Iris West (mention) Ships are closed and as always requests are open unless stated otherwise by requested: savitar with mute reader, kind of like the little mermaid and gets savitar to help them get their voice back. It’s not very romantic or long so I hope this Savitar imagine is to your liking jj, I kind of got lazy with it too. But the one thing he always craved was more access to the Speed Force.A/n: and savitar once again comes to make an appearance on my blog, he’s such a pain in the ass but he’s a very interesting character to write. He could lend speed to other objects and even other people, heal himself instantly and even protect himself with a force field. He discovered many new powers that no other speedster had ever been able to accomplish. Described as a "vicious and cruel man," he became obsessed with his new powers, and dedicated his life to studying velocity and pushing himself. But while The Flash has featured speedster villains every season so far, Savitar is different from other speedsters. That accident gave him speedster powers, and he named himself after the Hindu god of motion since he believed his newfound powers were a divine gift. When he was testing a supersonic fighter jet, his plane was struck by lightning just as he reached top speed. As most supervillain origin stories go, he actually began as a good guy, a regular human who was a pilot for a Third World nation during the Cold War. So who is Savitar according to the DC Comics archives? Savitar has been a part of The Flash canon since he was first introduced in 1995 by Mark Waid and Oscar Jimenez. "The other big bad is going to be Savitar." Alchemy was one of the two big bads this year," Helbing told the room of reporters. Read more: Comic-Con: Flashpoint Debuts in First Trailer for 'The Flash' Season 3Īnd then, weeks later, at the 2016 Television Critics Association summer press tour, Helbing finally revealed the identity of the other season three villain. (While the actual actor playing Doctor Alchemy is being cast at a later date, as of right now he is being voiced by Tobin Bell, the man behind Saw villain Jigsaw.) "One is a speedster that we'll reveal later and the other, the one in the creepy mask, is Doctor Alchemy," writer Todd Helbing said. While the producers of The CW's hit comic book series revealed at Comic-Con that the show was going to feature "two big bads" in season three, they only announced the identity of one during the packed panel. Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) is going to be fighting more than just an alternate timeline this season on The Flash. Google TV got an upgrade too, and its interface is now nicer than Roku's. It adds a remote-a much-needed companion-plus built-in Google TV (formerly Android TV), so you don't ever have to touch your phone to watch TV if you don't want to. This Chromecast ( 8/10, WIRED recommends) is a great streaming device. Roku connects to all major streaming services. Roku products are frequently discounted, too. ★ Another Streaming Stick: The Streaming Stick 4K ($50) is a little cheaper, and its remote doesn't have hands-free voice control, if you aren't interested in that. You'll have to charge the remote, which I don't particularly love, but you do save money on replacing batteries. Remote lost in the couch cushions? Just ask Roku where it is to activate a beep. Say “Hey Roku, play Succession on HBO Max” without lifting a finger (yep, Roku now supports HBO Max!). There's a slider on the side of the remote that, if pushed to the on position, allows you to talk to your remote from anywhere in the room. We think most people will like the stick-it's one of Roku's cheapest devices, and the 4K Plus is faster and comes with a longer-range wireless receiver it also plugs right into your TV's HDMI port, so you won't see it dangling. The Streaming Sticks have held our top spot for years, and the most recent version is the 4K Plus. Roku's interface is the easiest to navigate, and all the major streaming services are there. But if you have a house full of Apple stuff and enjoy AirPlay, you may as well complete your collection. Lately, it seems to care more about its Apple TV+ subscription service and app than its physical hardware. It doesn't update its models or its interface all that often. It also has most apps, but TV boxes remain a side project for Apple. Apple TV has a slick interface and Apple's usual gloss. If you buy or rent a lot of movies from Amazon, and subscribe to Prime, the Fire TV is appealing. Unfortunately, it sometimes feels like an ad for Amazon stuff more than a diverse ecosystem of apps and content. Amazon Fire TV is geared toward those who really enjoy Amazon's ecosystem, and it will quickly point you to its content. The only problem is that these don't manage storage quite as well. With its newest Chromecast, we stopped seeing the bugs and problems that used to plague the platform, and it includes basically every streaming app out there, as well as YouTube and Spotify. It's been around for years, but it just recently (in 2020) nailed the experience. Google TV, formerly called Android TV, is Google's latest streaming OS.You can also do this with Apple TV's Airplay 2 functionality, but you need an iOS or macOS device. Though that's no longer its main draw, it has the added benefit of letting you send web pages or other content directly from your smartphone (it's easiest on an Android Phone), which is sometimes quite handy. Chromecast used to eschew an interface altogether (and older models still hold true to this), but the newest version has Google TV built-in.The company survives solely on how well its streaming device platform performs. Roku also isn't made by one of the major tech companies. Plus, if you decide to switch TVs, you can just move your Roku to another TV in your house at any time. Roku is our favorite streaming OS because it has just about every streaming app there is, and setup is hassle-free.For example if you are using a Chrome browser and select Cast from the menu, you’ll see that Roku TV is listed but not enabled. This doesn’t work everywhere automatically as it does with Chromecast. You’ll use the same casting icon, but choose a different device from the cast list. You have a few options if you want to cast to your Roku TV from your computer.Ĭasting to your Roku TV works almost identically to how you’d cast to a Chromecast. How to Cast to Roku TV From Your Computer Make sure your PC or mobile device is connected to the same home Wi-Fi network.Īdding channels isn’t critical for many of the services that support Roku TV casting, but it can enable additional apps on your phone that normally wouldn’t work without the channel added. Add the services you usually cast from as new Roku channels using the Roku TV menu.Make sure your Roku TV is connected to your home Wi-Fi network. However there are a few things you can do to ensure that you can cast from more websites and services. If you have a Roku TV connected to your TV, you’re ready to start casting right away. Why did he stop to buy a Dr Pepper and burritos in the truck he stole from Kyle? Routh’s defence team mockingly summarised one of the prosecution’s arguments as “he couldn’t possibly be insane because he could negotiate the drive-thru at Taco Bell”. Did Kyle and Littlefield breed a seething resentment by forcing their guest to eat lunch at the Lone Star State’s most beloved fast-food chain, Whataburger, when he was not hungry? Routh’s threatening behaviour at a family fish fry was analysed and even seemingly banal actions were probed as possible evidence of his mental state. Addressing the jury, her colleague, district attorney Alan Nash, concluded with a plea to the jury’s local pride: “This defendant gunned down two men in cold blood – shot them in the back in our county. Prosecutor Jane Starnes told the jury that claims Routh believed in killer “pig people” were “a load of hogwash”. While the trial took place amid national focus on the case and the film, there were times when proceedings adopted a distinctively Texan, and sometimes bizarre, tenor. They argued he was a paranoid schizophrenic man who was having a psychotic episode when he shot and killed Littlefield, 35, and Kyle, 38, on 2 February 2013.Ĭhad Littlefield was killed when he and Chris Kyle accompanied Routh to a shooting range. Routh’s legal team did not dispute he carried out the killings but hoped to convince the jury to return a verdict of not guilty by reason of insanity and produced examples of his strange behaviour. The movie, and his bestselling 2012 autobiography on which the film was based, made Kyle an emblem of patriotic heroism for many Americans and an icon for a slew of conservative commentators. It has made over $400m globally at the box office and was nominated for six Academy Awards, winning best sound editing at Sunday’s ceremony. We’re so thrilled that we have the verdict that we have tonight.”Ī former navy Seal reputed to be the deadliest sniper in US military history, Kyle was the subject of the film directed by Clint Eastwood. Outside the building Chad’s mother, Judy, told reporters that the family had “waited two years for God to get justice for us on behalf of our son and, as always, God has proved to be faithful. Their words and the jury’s exit promoted emotional scenes inside and around the small courtroom in this town about 100 miles south-west of Dallas. You became an American disgrace,” said Jerry Richardson, Chad’s step-brother. “You took the lives of two heroes men that tried to be a friend to you. She had walked out during the defence’s closing statement on Tuesday afternoon, seemingly upset by their line of argument.īut many of Littlefield’s relatives remained and two gave forceful victim impact statements, speaking directly to Routh, who mostly sat still and looked straight ahead towards the judge rather than turn to meet their gaze. Kyle’s widow, Taya, had been in court daily and was the first witness called by the prosecution 13 days ago, but was not present to hear the verdict.
